Granstubbe med röta
The harsh climate at 65 degrees North, 530 metres above the sea, makes the trees grow slowly and favour a long life. The declining and finally broken spruce top probably contributed to the record age by reducing the trees' growth and the wind loads.
Den långsamma tillväxten i det kärva klimatet, 530 meter över havet, ligger bakom granens långa liv. Den döende och med tiden avbrutna grantoppen har dämpat tillväxten och minskat vindfånget, så att granen stått länge trots sin rotröta.
